The "Do's" and "Don'ts"

In this course, the student learn about compressed gas safety.  Students who complete this course will be granted 0.1 CEU.

A compressed gas cylinder, if not used properly, can seriously injure the employee through misuse. The hazards of compressed gases along with the properties they possess are covered.  The student will also learn about labels and United states Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping classes.  It is important to remember to always read and understand the label and never assume the contents based on the color of the cylinder. Some companies their own paint scheme while others will use the lowest cost paint and no paint scheme exists.

Storage and handling of compressed gases as well as techniques for moving cylinders are discussed.  Always use a cart and never try to just "spin" the cylinders to their use locations.  Full and empty compressed gas cylinders should be segregated in storage areas.

Finally valves and connections are discussed.  Leaks can be found in lines so limit mechanical connections as much as possible as well as shut down the system and fix a leak as once. It is very important to have chemical compatible gas lines to ensure reliability and long service life. Students who complete this course will be granted 0.1 CEU.
