Provider & Payor Requirements

Course Introduction

The No Surprises Act is a new law that, in large part, went into effect on January 1, 2022. This law has as its primary goal to protect the patient from two main things: 1) Surprise bills received when the patient goes out-of-network for emergency and emergency-related services; or when the patient receives non-emergency services from out-of-network providers in in-network hospitals. 2) The law takes the patient out of the middle of provider-payor payment disputes by creating an independent dispute resolution (“IDR”) process for arbitrating out-of-network claims.

This course is designed to be a job aid to help you gain an understanding of the changes introduced by the NSA, to know what new obligations there are under the NSA, and to expand your background knowledge of the NSA and get you on the way to readiness for new provider and payor obligations under the NSA

This course focuses on the law as stated in the No Surprises Act, while touching very briefly on implementation guidelines in Part II of the related Interim Final Rules.
